Windows 10 was one of the most popular and accepted update by the IT giant viz. Microsoft. Almost all the tech lover has upgraded to Windows 10 from the Windows Vista/7 and 8 systems. It is irritating when you just open your computer for any important work and windows 10 freezes after login. When you have upgraded your system from windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10; then many of the previous drivers will work fine with the windows 10 also but if the drivers in Windows 10 are old or this drivers are from the old update of the Windows 7/8/Vista; then it windows 10 freezes after update also. So, you need to upgrade all of them to their newer version.

You can upgrade the drivers through the Device Manager or via update from the manufacturer’s site. Follow the below steps to update drivers of your system.

  1. Simultaneously click the Windows Key + X.
  2. Select the device manager and then go to the Display adapters.
  3. Now, from the given window click right on your graphic card name also note down the name of adapter)
  4. After that follow the given process.

After following all the instruction on the screen you will see that whether driver is updated or not. If it is updated then reboot your PC and check if windows freeze problem still exist. If drivers are not updated then go to the site of manufacture and download and install the driver from there.

That’s it! Now reboot your computer to check whether windows 10 freezes randomly or not.

Note: If issue persist even after updating the graphic driver then try updating the audio driver as well. The steps are same for the both.

Method 2: Increase Virtual Memory to prevent windows 10 freezes problem

If your physical memory i.e RAM runs out of the space while running any resource intensive programs; then virtual memory act as a savior. In order to make space virtual memory add RAM with the TEMP storage present on your hard disk. So by manually increasing the space of Virtual Memory you can actually solve the windows 10 freezes problem. You can increase the virtual memory space by simply making changes in settings.

Follow the below steps for the same.

  1. Simultaneously press Windows Key + S and then type advanced. From the appeared menu  select View advanced settings.

  2. In the performance section you will see the setting button; click on that.

  3. Now. navigate to Advanced and then select change.

  4. There you will see the check box of Automatically manage paging file size for all drives. Uncheck that box.

  5. Now, go to system drive then select custom size and then enter the Initial size and Maximum size in MB. For initial size you are free to choose any size but your maximum size should be 1.5x larger than amount of RAM In MB. You are done! Now just click on Set and OK to save the changes.

After all this process you just need to delete all files from the Temp directory. It is very easy to do and can be complete by following steps.

  1. Again, press Windows Key + R ad enter Temp.
  2. Then click OK.

  3. Now, you will see the Temp directory, select all files and delete them from your system.

Method 3: Disable C-States in BIOS

“C-States” which is also called as “CPU States”.  Basically, this are in your PC as a power saver- whenever your computer is not in use or having less work then it automatically shut down the voltage, multipliers, etc of your system but sometime it can also be the reason for Windows 10 freeze randomly. In such condition it will be good to disable CPU states. Turning off the power saving options can make your computer more stable. Also, it will be result to less or no window freezing and random rebooting.

This is how you can disable CPU states:-

  1. First of all restart your computer and when it will show the logo then press the setup key which are defined by manufacturer of your system. The setup keys are usually listed on the logo screen. These keys are different for every manufacturer but most commonly it is F2, F1, Esc, F12, Delete or a combination of these keys.
  2.  If you miss the above steps and main screen appear before you could press the setup keys then let your system start and after that again restart your computer. This time sure you are fast enough to press the setup keys before logo screen disappear.
  3. After your windows turns into BIOS setup, then by using your keyboard go to the Main Menu. From this, select the Advanced Tab and choose CPU Configuration.
  4. In that you will see option of C1E Function and Intel(R) C-STATE tech. It has to be disabled if are not disable then with the help of keyboard go to the list of options and select the setting you want to change. After pressing enter; move arrow to Up/Down to select the value as disabled.
  5. As the setting has been changed; save it and exit the BIOS setting by following the instruction given on your screen and restart your computer again.

Method 4 – Perform a Startup Repair

One of the simplest solution to the Windows 10 freeze randomly is to perform a startup repair. It is simple but effective solution to the problem. In order to perform it on Windows 10; follow the following steps.:

  1. In the start menu click the power icon and then press and hold the shift key and restart your system.
  2. After PC gets restart you will see the list of option from which you have to select Troubleshoot then Advanced option. In advanced option click on the Startup Repair.
  3. As soon you click on Startup Repair the process of repair will execute. This process may take 15 minute to 20 minutes till then enjoy your coffee but do not interrupt your system.

After successful completion of this process your issue of windows 10 freezes will get resolved.
